THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa put the disappointment of their opening loss to Australia behind them as they earned their first win of the T20 World Cup by defeating reigning champions West Indies in what was a much better performance.
  • The Proteas were without key batsman Quinton de Kock but he could return for this clash and he will complement the likes of Aiden Markram who posted an impressive 51* from just 26 deliveries in the eight-wicket success against the Windies.

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka were unable to make it back-to-back wins in the Super 12s as they suffered a loss to Australia last time out and the pressure will now be on to make an immediate return to winning ways.
  • The Sri Lankans did a solid job with the bat as they posted 154/6 but the bowling unit struggled to limit the Australians who were able to surpass their target with three overs to spare.

THE PREDICTION

Both South Africa and Sri Lanka will be desperate to come out on top of this game with the loser facing an extremely tough task to remain in the tournament. South Africa will be in a bullish mood after a comfortable win over West Indies last time out and their batting ability looks like it will be too good for the Sri Lankans. Having struggled to take wickets in their most recent outing, Sri Lanka will need to improve in this one but the Proteas look set to have too much quality with the bat.
