THE LOWDOWN

SCOTLAND

  • Scotland’s victory over West Indies has given them a terrific platform to go on and qualify into the ‘Super 12’ stage for the second successive T20 World Cup, but the job is far from done for them with this match with Ireland crucial.
  • No changes are expected from the Scots, who will be hoping the bowlers replicate their showing vs West Indies and that George Munsey can pick up where he left off with the bat at the top of the order.

IRELAND

  • Ireland leaked far too many runs last time out against Zimbabwe and never got close to their victory target, ultimately falling by 31 runs, leaving their ‘Super 12’ qualification hopes now hanging by a thread.
  • Key batters Paul Stirling and Harry Tector both failed, scoring just one run between them and it cannot be emphasised enough how important it is that at least one of them accrues a significant score in this one.

THE PREDICTION

Ireland are on the brink of a second hugely disappointing T20 World Cup group stage exit in as many years and it would be no surprise if their players were feeling the pressure. So much is dependent on the potency of their top order batting, who failed to perform against Zimbabwe. Just as worrying though is their bowling attack, which doesn’t not look as dangerous as that of Scotland’s based on the opening round of group games. The Scots have already successfully kept West Indies shackled, combining discipline with cutting edge and it would no surprise if they were to do the same here, so back Scotland to come out on top between these two nations and show that their victory over the Windies was no fluke.
