THE LOWDOWN
INDIA
- India eased their way to two wins from two in the ‘Super 12’s so far, thumping Netherlands by 56 runs after winning the toss, batting and racking up 179/2 from their allocated 20 overs.
- Fans were treated to another Virat Kohli masterclass as he was one of three Indian batters who reached a half-century, with both captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav also scoring 50+ runs.
SOUTH AFRICA
- South Africa took all their frustration from being denied victory over Zimbabwe out on Bangladesh this past Thursday in Sydney, mauling the Tigers by 104 runs which will have done wonders for their net-run-rate going forward.
- Big-hitting batter Rilee Rossouw was the hero of the hour for the Proteas, smashing 109 from just 56 balls and he was able supported by opener Quinton de Kock, who continued his fine form with an impressive 63.
THE PREDICTION
A high-scoring contest may be on the menu here between two nations who have already played seven completed T20i fixtures against each since June with India winning four compared to South Africa’s three triumphs. All those matches however, took place in the subcontinent whilst this game is in Perth which should lead to plenty of runs. The outcome itself could go either way, but the fact that India have already played out a nail-biting match which forced them to hold their nerve under extreme pressure may be extremely useful here with another close encounter a distinct possibility. With that in mind, backing India to narrowly come out on top looks a smart play.
