THE LOWDOWN

COLOMBO KINGS

  • Colombo come into this game following a comprehensive defeat to Dambulla in which the Kings became only the second side to be bowled out during the tournament so the Kings will be eager to bounce back here.
  • They have a fully fit and available squad ahead of their fourth match of the tournament as a super-over victory over Kandy and a rain-affected bludgeoning of Galle has given them four points prior to that defeat against Dambulla last time out.
  • The middle-order and all-rounder slots in their side is where the strengths lie with captain and icon Angelo Mathews, T20 legend Andre Russell and Sri Lankan international Isuru Udana all key components of this impressive side.

JAFFNA STALLIONS

  • Jaffna play for a second consecutive day following another fairly comfortable chase against Galle Gladiators on Thursday as the Stallions won by five wickets with two balls left and were comfortable throughout the game.
  • The Stallions, like their opposition, have a fully fit side ahead of their fifth match after a 100% start to the tournament as all four victories have been impressive with two successful run chases against Galle and thumping victories over Dambulla and Kandy.
  • Avishka Fernando, Thisara Perera and Dhananjaya De Silva’s aggressive and prolific form so far is matched by a potent bowling attack that consistently shares the wickets and doesn’t rely on a specific player with Duanne Olivier, Usman Shinwari and Wanindu Hasaranga all contributing.

THE PREDICTION

The middle-order and all-round strengths of both sides means this game should be quite high-scoring and highly entertaining. The Stallions have looked at changing the top of their order to have more support for Fernando with Englishman Tom Moores opening the batting but only making 11 from 12 balls in their chase against Galle and that does continue to be a weakness as it has been their middle order which has been key for them. The Kings come into this match well rested and will look to bounce back after losing last time out. Jaffna, however, should be too much for this Colombo side as they are quickly establishing themselves as the tournament favourites.
