THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa put in a dogged batting display to try and hold on for a draw on the final day of the second Test but it was not to be as they succumbed to a brilliant spell from Ben Stokes who turned the game in favour of the tourists.
  • The Proteas struggled with the bat as they failed to reach 250 in either of their two chances with the bat and also had issues with the ball as they allowed England to build a huge lead with their second innings which proved insurmountable.
  • After handing Test debuts to Rassie van der Dussen and Dwaine Pretorious in the first Test, they followed that up by giving Pieter Malan his first cap and the three other uncapped players in the squad in Rudi Second, Dane Paterson and Beuran Hendricks will all be hoping for calls in this game.

ENGLAND

  • England produced a brilliant batting performance in the second innings of the second Test against South Africa as they levelled the series with Dom Sibley’s maiden century helping his side on the way to victory as the opener posted a brilliant and patient 133*.
  • After losing Rory Burns to a long-term injury during training ahead of the second Test, England suffered another injury blow with Jimmy Anderson ruled out for the series after he picked up a rib injury.
  • Illness has also struck once again with captain Joe Root forced to miss training on Sunday but it is not expected to keep him out of the side for this game while Jofra Archer is expected to return to the fold after injury kept him out last week although Mark Wood is also pushing for a call-up and could get the nod.

THE PREDICTION

Ben Stokes produced some magic once again as he helped his side to victory in the second Test which saw England level the series with South Africa. That win did come at a cost with Jimmy Anderson ruled out for the remainder of the series with a rib injury and his absence could lead to a different look for the bowling unit. Jofra Archer should come back into the side but he could be joined by Mark Wood to offer England two deadly pace options and with the batting line-up starting to show some better signs, the tourists can take the lead in the series with another win here.
