THE TEAM NEWS
WEST INDIES
- West Indies have rung the changes ahead of this first T20i against Bangladesh with players such as Roston Chase, Fabian Allen and Sheldon Cottrell missing out whilst all-rounder Jason Holder is rested.
- Following impressive performances in both the IPL and T20 Blast, fast bowler Obed McCoy has been named in the squad and could make a significant contribution here, alongside all-rounder Keemo Paul
BANGLADESH
- Bangladesh are expected to have star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan available for this T20i series, although the veteran has pulled out of the three-match ODI series following these games,
- After featuring for Bangladesh in their recently concluded Test series against the Windies, Mehidy Hasan has been added to their T20 squad and could well find himself lining up for the Tigers on Saturday
THE PREDICTION
Bangladesh will be hoping to put up a far better fight than what they showed in the two Test matches last month and against a weakened West Indies team in somewhat of a transitional phase, they have every reason to believe that victory is realistic. However, the Windies remain a T20 unit with significant depth and power-hitting with captain Nicholas Pooran continuing to stamp his influence on the side since taking over from the retired Kieron Pollard. It is that power hitting which may well prove the difference between the two teams here at Windsor Park, particularly down the order. However, whilst the West Indies should be considered favourites in this first T20i, as the weather forecast currently indicates potential showers, do not make any moves until closer to the scheduled start of play.
