THE TEAM NEWS
SRI LANKA
- Sri Lanka failed to fire in their opening T20i game of the series with Australia and despite their much-heralded spin attack, they failed to take a single wicket as they were blown away in convincing fashion.
- Despite a positive start with the bat which saw the hosts reach 100/1 in the 12th over, Sri Lanka dramatically crumbed as they were bowled for 128 in a spectacular collapse and the pressure will be on their middle order to respond here as well as their bowling unit.
AUSTRALIA
- Australia produced a superb fightback to turn their first clash with Sri Lanka on its head and record a brilliant ten-wicket success despite looking in real danger in the early stages of the contest.
- The Aussies were thankful to the brilliance of Mitchell Starc (3-26) and Josh Hazlewood (4-16) as they helped reduce Sri Lanka to 128 before skipper Aaron Finch (61*) and David Warner (70*) destructively guided their side to a comfortable victory with six overs to spare.
THE PREDICTION
Sri Lanka suffered an awful batting collapse as they surrendered an excellent opening to their game with Australia and were subsequently on the end of a hammering. The fightback from the reigning T20 world champions was impressive as they capitalised on the momentum they generated by taking some quick wickets before a ruthless batting performance from the two openers. That win lays down a real marker for the rest of the series and having claimed such a convincing success to continue their excellent run of form, the Aussies have to be favoured to make it two wins in as many days.
