THE LOWDOWN

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan once again came out on the right of a thriller after at one stage looking like clear underdogs, scoring 145 batting first which ultimately proved enough on a difficult sticky pitch in Lahore that saw batters struggle to play their shots.
  • Opener Mohammad Rizwan propped up the batting single-handedly, making 63 runs whilst the Pakistan bowlers put together an excellent team effort with all six bowlers utilised picking up at least one wicket.

ENGLAND

  • Once again, England failed to execute a run chase, ending on 139/7 as the hosts strangled them into submission with Moeen Ali’s unbeaten 51 from 37 balls not enough to guide his side home.
  • Keeping fast bowler Mark Wood fit will be crucial going forward if his performance with to go by, his searing pace seeing the Durham star take three wickets at an economy rate of just 5.00, but England are clearly missing the batting power of Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow.

THE PREDICTION

For the first time in the series, England come into a match behind and must win each of their last two games in order to triumph on their long-awaited return to Pakistan. Both sides struggled with the bat in Lahore and it would be no surprise if this was another low-scoring encounter with boundaries not coming as regularly as they did in Karachi. The majority of games so far have been extremely tight and it would be a surprise if England don’t react positively having now played one game at the Gaddafi Stadium, ensuring their players are familiar with conditions. All neutrals will be hoping that such an exciting end-to-end series finishes with a deciding match and backing England to come back strongly here, this time doing enough to end up on the right side of the result is well worth consideration.
