India did just enough to hold off Sri Lanka and successfully defend a score of 162/5 by just two runs in Mumbai, giving the hosts a 1-0 series lead. The Indian top order misfired with the bat and were indebted to lower order hitters Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel to drag them up to what was ultimately a winning total. This time round though, you’d expect an improvement from those India batters higher up the card and thus a higher score should they bat first. As expected, India kept Sri Lanka well shackled with the ball in home conditions and a middle order relay from the visitors wasn’t enough for them to claim victory.
