THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

  • India racked up a large score of 208/6 batting first in the opening T20i, but a poor bowling performance saw them unable to defend that total, falling to a four-wicket defeat with all bowlers bar the excellent Axar Patel finding themselves dispatched all over Mohali.
  • If the hosts are to make any changes, it will be within the bowling as they look to plug the leakage of runs in the first game with Deepak Chahar perhaps a contender to come into the side.

AUSTRALIA

  • Most might have expected Australia to fail in their chase of 209 to beat India last time out, but a superb batting performance saw them maintain the run-rate required throughout and ultimately come out on top.
  • Batting at number 6 on debut, Tim David made just 18, but it was number 7 Matthew Wade who took the visitors home, the wicket-keeper-batter blasting 45 not out from 21 deliveries after the top three had accumulated 118 of the runs required.

THE PREDICTION

India’s death bowling must be a worry for them with the upcoming T20 World Cup looming, but the batting looks in good shape and another high-scoring battle is likely in this second T20i. Australia have proven their ability and depth with the bat on Indian soil, but should face a much-improved Indian side on the bowling front from a performance perspective. With that in mind, it may prove a shrewd move to back India to win and level the series.
