THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

  • Bowler Mohammed Shami testing positive for Covid-19 has ruled him out of the series with Umesh Yadav brought in as a replacement, however Harshal Patel has been passed fit and could play in this opening game.
  • KL Rahul will open with batting with Rohit Sharma despite the return to form of Virat Kohli through the Asia Cup which saw him score a century in the only match in which he played as an opener.

AUSTRALIA

  • Australia are set to be without a number of key players for this series with Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and David Warner all missing out through injury, leading to the call-ups of Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis and Daniel Sams.
  • Tim David is expected to make his international debut for Australia after having already played for Singapore with his T20 exploits in franchise cricket across the world drawing the attention of Australia.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these nations will be using this series as crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup but at the same time, they’ll each be desperate to claim victory. However, Australia will be heavily up against it without many of their star names and away to an India team extremely strong on home turf and desperate to get back into form following an early exit from the Asia Cup. With that in mind, back the hosts to come out on top in Mohali.
