THE TEAM NEWS

AUSTRALIA

  • In their first T20i match since being crowned world champions in the format, Australia were able to claim a win as they overcame Sri Lanka in their opening clash of the series.
  • The match was interrupted slightly by the weather but it did not deter the Australians with Ben McDermott carrying on where he left off in the Big Bash League and making the most of his call-up to the side with a knock of 53 from 41 runs to help his side to the 20-run success via the D/L method.

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka will need to improve with both bat and ball if they are to get the better of Australia in their second meeting of the series after falling short in their first contest, largely on the back of a lack of runs up the order.
  • Of the first six men at the crease, only opener Pathum Nissanka was able to score more than 20 runs and the pressure will be on those that failed to produce a response in this contest.

THE PREDICTION

Australia’s under-strength side did a solid job of securing the win in their opening contest against Sri Lanka and they will be confident of building on that success as the pair meet once again. The tourists will need to be much better with the bat to live with the Australians but even if they are this time around, the home team look to have plenty more to come too and the world champions look well-placed to record another victory.
