THE LOWDOWN

ZIMBABWE

  • Whilst Saturday saw Zimbabwe’s bowling attack put in a much better performance compared to the first ODI between these two nations, they still failed to prevent defeat after the home side were once again bowled out for under 200 batting first, this time just 161 was managed by the Zimbabwean batters.
  • Zimbabwe’s top order batters have failed miserably so far across this series with seven of the eight innings played by the top four having been ended in single figures with a high score of just 16 from Innocent Kaia.

INDIA

  • Although India couldn’t match their ten-wicket success in the opening ODI in this series, they still did enough to emerge comfortably victorious after their bowlers once again laid down a perfect platform, with all six utilised taking at least one wicket.
  • After watching Deepak Chahar star with the ball on Thursday, Shardul Thakur made the most of his opportunity, taking three scalps of his own and assuming only one of the two plays here, India will have a tough choice regarding which of them to select.

THE PREDICTION

India’s bowlers have quite simply, been too good for Zimbabwe across each of the two games played over the course of the series so far and that is unlikely to change despite the series having already been won. With players jostling for positions in the team, every game is a big one for every player as they look to try and nail down their spot amid intense competition. This raises the standards amid the Indian team, which will only continue to benefit them going forward including in this third ODI, which India are well worth backing to triumph in.
