THE LOWDOWN
ZIMBABWE
- Zimbabwe head into the final ODI playing only for a consolation victory after their score of 228 in the second ODI this past Monday was nowhere near enough to prevent them from falling to a 0-2 deficit in the series.
- Once again, aside from Blessing Muzarabani, the hosts simply did not look potent enough with the ball and Muzarabani taking five of the team’s seven wickets across the series so far tells the story, so this simply must change if Zimbabwe wish to avoid a 0-3 sweep.
AFGHANISTAN
- Afghanistan’s bowlers once again did the damage in the second ODI, bowling out Zimbabwe for the modest 228, before the top order backed them up perfectly, chasing down 229 for the loss of just two wickets and with 5.3 overs to spare.
- A magnificent 120 not out from Ibrahim Zadran formed the backbone of the tourists’ chase, the first century scored by any player from either side in the series and he’ll be looking to back that up with another significant knock here.
THE PREDICTION
Afghanistan have really impressed across this ODI series so far and will no doubt be desperate to seal a 0-3 triumph to underline that. They have proven themselves to be a far superior side, with Zimbabwe’s bowlers not showing enough potency to threaten the visiting batters, whilst Afghanistan’s bowlers in comparison have been excellent in not only taking wickets, but also keeping the run-rate at a manageable level. It’s difficult to see this third match going in a different direction to the previous two, so back Afghanistan to make three ODI victories without reply in Harare.
