THE LOWDOWN

WEST INDIES

West Indies surprised many by levelling the series with a six-wicket victory over India this past weekend, leaving everything to play for going into this one. After the Indian opening batters put up 90 runs for the first wicket, things weren’t looking good for them but the Windies bowlers rallied and caused a collapse, bowling India out for just 181. The batters then held their nerve after a few wickets following a 53-rin opening partnership. Captain Shai Hope guided his side home with 63 not out and was well supported by Keacy Carty, who scored 48 not out in an unbroken partnership of 91 runs.

INDIA

India are expected to bring back their big guns for this third ODI after the decision by head coach Rahul Dravid to rest Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli backfired dramatically. Kohli in particular, was a huge miss as the likes of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel (batting at four) didn’t contribute enough to the scorecard, leading to an Indian collapse which saw them eventually bowled out for just 181. Defending a modest total, Shardul Thakur did his best to drag the tourists back into proceedings by taking the wickets of West Indies’ entire top three, but ultimately it proved in vain.

THE PREDICTION

A strong India response is on the cards here with Rohit and Kohli surely restored to the team. That will add some much-needed experience and steel to their batting which should ensure they don’t collapse in the way they did last time out. Should India step up the few gears required, West Indies are unlikely to be able to compete with that with so much pressure on captain Hope in particular. Back India to get the better of West Indies in this third ODI.

TIP: INDIA TO WIN
