THE TEAM NEWS

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies were unable to really get going in wet conditions and the weather brought their first ODI contest with India to a halt before it was ultimately rained off after just 13 overs of play.
  • Chris Gayle played his slowest-ever ODI innings as he managed to notch just four singles before he was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav after 31 balls in a very uncharacteristic innings for the former captain.
  • Evin Lewis on the other hand did not waste any time as he struck an unbeaten 40 from 36 balls before the game was halted and he will be keen to continue where he left off in this second match in what is expected to be an unchanged line-up.

INDIA

  • India were arguably the more frustrated of the two teams following the abandonment of the first ODI with the West Indies after getting off to a superb start with the ball but they were not given the chance to maintain it.
  • When the teams were first taken from the field after 5.4 over, the Windies had failed to even reach double-digits but that stoppage halted their momentum as the West Indies picked up the pace on the resumption of play.
  • KL Rahul was left out of the side for the first game with Rohit Sharma returning to the team and that appears to indicate that Rishabh Pant has won the race to bat at four for the Indians.

THE PREDICTION

West Indies and India will be hoping to have more luck with the weather after their first ODI was ended prematurely. Only 13 overs were managed before the players were taken off for a final time with the umpires calling an early end to the game. Both teams should be unchanged here after getting little game time and India look the team to beat following their displays in the recent T20 series.
