- United States were left frustrated ahead of their big game with Ireland as the first of their three-game one-day international series was cancelled because of a positive COVID-19 test from a match official.
- After stunning the Irish in their first T20i game, they would have been hoping to build on that drawn series as they take to the 50-over format and they will be desperate to get back onto the field after Sunday’s setback.
IRELAND
- Ireland, like the hosts, were left to rue an unfortunate set of circumstances which prevented them from getting onto the field in their opening ODI match of the series as they aim to show their quality after a disappointing T20i two-game series.
- The tourists were better in the second clash between the two but only just recorded a victory as they avoided a humiliating whitewash and the pressure will be on as they take to the one-day arena.
THE PREDICTION
United States and Ireland will hope for better luck in their efforts to get this game on after their first ODI contest succumbed to COVID-19 protocols. A new set of officials will be in place for this game after a positive test amongst the group slated for the first match, although a delay of two days is unlikely to impact the players too much. Ireland were far from impressive in the T20i series but their quality should be able to shine through in this longer format of the game.
