THE LOWDOWN

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa’s bowlers have been ripped apart over the course of Australia’s white ball tour and the second ODI represented arguably the Proteas’ most brutal punishment. The host bowling was taken apart as Australia accumulated 392 runs, a score never likely to be matched by South Africa, who could only manage 269 all out. That means defeat here in this third ODI would see South Africa lose the series with two matches still to play.

AUSTRALIA

Marnus Labuschagne backed up his winning knock of 80 not out in the first ODI with a magnificent hundred in the second match, showing his class in a career-best knock of 124. He wasn’t the only Australian to score a century, David Warner striking 106 at the top of the order as the tourists racked up a massive score of 392/8 batting first. Such a total was comfortably defendable, Adam Zampa helping to spin out the Proteas with four wickets. It’s now five straight white-ball victories in South Africa for Australia.

THE PREDICTION

Australia continues to dominate South Africa in all facets of the game and the home side have had simply no answer. The morale within both dressing rooms couldn’t be more contrasting and it would be no surprise if South Africa were already looking ahead towards the Cricket World Cup and writing this series off as a contest. Any outcome other than Australia extending their lead to an unassailable three matches has to be favoured in Potchefstroom.
