THE LOWDOWN
South Africa
South Africa batted well in the third T20i despite the loss of early wickets, but once again their bowlers failed to contain their opponents in the run chase. Lungi Ngidi’s sole over went for 18 runs, Keshav Maharaj’s three overs for 40 runs and Lizaad Williams’ two overs for 24. Changes will be made to their side for the ODIs with Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs released from the squad.
Australia
Australia maintained their vice-like grip on South Africa in the remaining T20i, despite chasing a high target of 191 to complete a series sweep. Sean Abbott had taken four wickets with the ball, but with the bat it was opener Travis Head who did the damage, scoring 91 from 48 balls. Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis picked up the pace later in the innings to see Australia home, scoring 42 and 37 respectively with Stoinis unbeaten at the conclusion.
THE PREDICTION
Momentum is a powerful tool in cricket and Australia currently have it in bucketloads after having been so dominant in the T20i series. The 50-over format could arguably suit South Africa better as a team, but when you consider how much their bowlers struggled to reign in the tourists in 20-over cricket, it’s difficult to see them stifling Australia in the longer white-ball format. Therefore, back Australia to extend their winning streak in this tour.
