THE LOWDOWN
SCOTLAND
- Scotland will have to dramatically improve, particularly with the ball if the two T20i matches between the two nations were anything to go by, with New Zealand winning both games comfortably.
- Batter Kyle Coetzer may have retired from T20i cricket, but should come into the side for this one-off ODI whilst opener Ollie Hairs will be hoping for an opportunity at the top of the order.
NEW ZEALAND
- On the back of racking up their highest ever T20i score in the process of thrashing Scotland to secure a 0-2 series sweep, New Zealand will be expected to back up their performances with another strong showing in the 50 over format.
- Batting at number three on Friday and scoring 83, Mark Chapman will be hoping to keep his place in the side, but should Martin Guptill come back into the team, then the likes of Chapman, Dane Cleaver or Finn Allen are at risk of losing their spot.
THE PREDICTION
When taking into account the margin of New Zealand’s victories already over Scotland, it’s hard not to see the Black Caps dominating once again in this one, even if this is a 50-over contest. Ireland pushed New Zealand close a couple of times in this format earlier in the month, but Scotland don’t appear to boast the same quality of player within their ranks. New Zealand have taken apart the Scottish bowling attack in T20 cricket and they are well worth backing to do the same here, ultimately recording an extremely comprehensive victory.
