THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

  • India will look to put their recent poor form across all formats behind them as they host West Indies, starting with a three-game one-day international series but they will have to do so without some key men.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have all been left out while Ravindra Jadeja is still unavailable owing to his recovery from a knee injury but Kuldeep Yadav gets another chance following a long absence.

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies edged a thrilling T20i series with England and they will look to build on that effort as they go on tour of India with a three-match ODI series to kick things off before they revert back to the shortest format of the game.
  • The Windies will keep the faith with the same squad that they utilised in the series against England and with Jason Holder catching the eye with 15 wickets in those five games, he could be key once again.

THE PREDICTION

India and West Indies will do battle in this opening ODI match of the series with the pressure firmly on the hosts. They were whitewashed by South Africa in their recent series and with several of their key players missing out, it will be up to those named to fill the void and attempt to reverse their poor form. Virat Kohli will have an important role to play and while the Windies will be buoyed by their recent T20i success against England, the Indians should have too much for them on home soil.
