THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
Ben Stokes! Nothing else needs to be said really. You have to wonder if the Durham man is human at times after setting another record on Wednesday. This time, he became the owner of England’s highest individual ODI score following his unbelievable 182 from 124 balls at the Kia Oval, helping England to a monster score of 368. New Zealand never got close as England bowled excellently, restricting the Black Caps and both ends and securing a crushing 181-run triumph.
NEW ZEALAND
Despite Trent Boult once again picking up early wickets, New Zealand failed to capitalise and paid a heavy price. Once Dawid Malan and in particular Ben Stokes were finished, the tourists were left with a run chase which was always likely to prove far too much for them. Their batting subsided poorly, with only Glenn Phillips offering any serious resistance, meaning New Zealand must now win the final ODI to draw the series.
THE PREDICTION
The series is on the line here with England sealing the honours with victory, whilst a New Zealand win sees the trophy shared. But the tables have now firmly turned and all the momentum is with England. The hosts’ batting depth has well and truly come to the fore and New Zealand’s bowling attack have struggled to come with the firepower that simply keeps coming at them across the 50 overs. Back England to finish the job and record a 3-1 series win.
BETTING TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN
