THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
A reaction was expecting from England’s bowling unit in Southampton and we duly got it. Rain saw the match reduced to a 34-over affair and England batting first ended up setting New Zealand a target of 227 to win after a brilliant 95 not out from Liam Livingstone batting at seven, supported by Sam Curran’s 42. The hosts then proceeded to bowl out the Black Caps for 147, left-arm quicker bowlers Reece Topley and David Willey each taking three wickets.
NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand’s batting was finally blunted in the most recent ODI after having taken England to the cleaners in the both the opening 50-over fixture and the last two T20i matches. The frustration from their point of view though, will be that they had England 55/7 at one stage but couldn’t ram home their advantage which they ultimately paid the price for. Trent Boult’s three wickets underlined his class, decimating the England top order.
THE PREDICTION
Now England have got back to winning ways, they are in a good spot to kick on from here. Their top order are due a really big showing and it would be no surprise to see it come here at the Kia Oval. The worry from New Zealand’s perspective is a few early wickets could expose a soft underbelly down the order, as was shown on Sunday. Back England to make it two ODI wins in a row and take a series lead.
BETTING TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN
