THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
England will use this three-match ODI series against Ireland to blood some new names into their white ball set-up whilst also giving the likes of Joe Root time at the crease in a bid to get him into form ahead of the World Cup. Root is confirmed to be playing in this first ODI, which will see England captained by Zak Crawley as the hosts attempt to embed a number of their Test batters into the 50-over game such as Crawley and fellow opener Ben Duckett.
IRELAND
Ireland understandably are heavy underdogs coming into this series, but will hope the resting of numerous England players may give them a chance to pull off an upset over the course of these three matches. They’ll need to likes of Harry Tector and Paul Stirling to bat extremely well if they are to do so. Not to mention fast bowler Josh Little, who provides that X-Factor with the ball, which could cause England problems.
THE PREDICTION
Even with a number of new players, England’s team on paper still looks incredibly strong. Many have performed to a high level in county cricket and some have gained further experience through franchise cricket. Then you have the likes of Crawley and Duckett, whose confidence will already be high following their performances in the Ashes. Expect England to get the better of Ireland at Headingley and take a 1-0 lead.
BETTING TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN
