THE TEAM NEWS

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore were stunned by Kolkata Knight Riders last time, who bowled Virat Kohli’s side out for 92, before chasing their target of 93 down in ten overs with just one wicket lost.
  • KS Bharat was brought into the side as wicketkeeper with AB de Villiers playing as a specialist batter, meaning that Rajat Patidar missed out against KKR and Patidar could be brought into the starting line-up here.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

  • Chennai Super Kings picked up where they left off in the first phase of the IPL, securing their sixth victory of the tournament against Mumbai Indians, successfully defending a first innings score of 156 to win by 20 runs with an unbeaten 88 from opener Ruturaj Gaikwad the key innings over the course of the match for Chennai.
  • South African batter Faf du Plessis was passed fit to play in that game, although he was dismissed for 0 and he’ll be hoping for better luck here, whilst all-rounder Sam Curran will only be available provided he has completed his mandatory period of quarantine.

THE PREDICTION

Royal Challengers Bangalore may have been thrashed by Kolkata Knight Riders, but they are an experienced outfit and will have already put that loss behind them no doubt, with all their focus on putting in a vastly improved showing here, particularly with the bat. The chances of a player such as De Villiers being dismissed without scoring for a second successive match is extremely low and with the likes of him, captain Kohli and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in the side, it would no surprise to see RCB accrue a far more significant total here should they be batting first. Chennai Super Kings however, have proven themselves as a strong outfit who are very well captained by MS Dhoni. Whilst the wickets of Kohli and De Villiers are crucial, should Chennai dismiss those two for relatively small totals, then they are likely to go on and record a seventh IPL win in 2021.
