THE LOWDOWN

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

  • Rajasthan Royals responded expertly to defeat at the hands of RCB, by overcoming Lucknow Super Giants in a three-run thriller which saw leg-spin bowler Yuzvendra Chahal shine, taking four wickets across Lucknow’s failed run chase.
  • The Royals have had to adjust following overseas player Nathan Coulter-Nile’s return to Australia after suffering an injury, whilst both Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell will be hoping for an opportunity here, perhaps in place of South African Rassie van der Dussen.

GUJARAT TITANS

  • After three straight victories, Gujarat Titans finally fell to their first defeat as part of the IPL, losing by eight wickets to Sunrisers Hyderabad, their total of 162/7 chased down with five balls to spare.
  • It will be interesting to see if Gujarat look to change things following that loss having picked the same team as the one who defeated Punjab Kings with David Miller in particular coming under fire for his slow knock of 12 from 15 balls against SRH.

THE PREDICTION

These two sides on paper are well matched, especially with the bat as each have the potential to utilise the powerplay fully, as well as accelerate during the middle and latter overs if needed. Gujarat however, lacked potency with the ball against SRH and this could cost them against the likes of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, both quality operators capable of taking the game away from their opponents. Combine that with the steel of Rajasthan when it comes to defending totals alongside how well their bowling unit compliments each other and backing the Royals for victory looks to be the smart play in this one.
