THE LOWDOWN

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

  • Rajasthan Royals found themselves on the wrong end of a high-scoring thriller against Punjab Kings this past Wednesday, their batters impressing again but not being able to chase down a stiff target of 198.
  • Plenty of Rajasthan batters got starts but no one could go on and play that match-defining innings, Sanju Samson top scoring with 42 as all but two Royals batters reached double figures.

DELHI CAPITALS

  • Delhi Capitals are already playing catch up in this year’s IPL having lost each of their first two matches, one away and one most recently at home against Gujarat Titans.
  • Head coach Ricky Ponting is unlikely to panic, but he will demand more from his batters no doubt, who so far haven’t looked like recording a really big score against any of their opponents.

THE PREDICTION

The expected absence of Jos Buttler for Rajasthan Royals should even things out here and makes this one slightly harder to predict. The hosts are the stronger side based on previous performances, but if Delhi Capitals were to take early wickets, then a collapse wouldn’t be out of the question. It’s hard to see a team with the firepower of Delhi miss out for the third match running and should Buttler not be named among the Rajasthan side, then backing Delhi Capitals to gain victory for the first time this season may prove a shrewd move.
