THE TEAM NEWS

KINGS XI PUNJAB

  • Kings XI Punjab’s hopes of reaching the knockout phase continue to hang by a thread but they have shown some good fight in the last couple of games to win two consecutive matches and give themselves an outside chance now.
  • After contriving to lose several close games earlier in the tournament, Kings XI have managed to win their last two matches which have gone down to the final ball against RCB and to a second Super Over against Mumbai Indians.
  • With Chris Gayle coming into the side to help spark this positive turnaround, they are unlikely to change a winning formula here and despite Glenn Maxwell’s struggles, an unchanged eleven is most likely.

DELHI CAPITALS

  • Delhi Capitals have finally shaken off Mumbai Indians to claim top spot in the IPL ladder for themselves and they will know that another win here will go a long way to securing that position.
  • They continue to impress despite injuries although they will be hoping that Rishabh Pant has shaken off his hamstring problem to be able to play here although they may prefer not to take any risks with their knockout spot virtually assured.
  • If Pant does return, then Hetmyer could also come back in for Alex Carey but these changes could come in the next game and for now, the Capitals will be hoping for another solid performance and win here.

THE PREDICTION

The first match between these two sides went to a Super Over with Kagiso Rabada winning it for the Capitals and there is every chance that this could be another close encounter. Both batting line-ups are impressive and with Chris Gayle looking in good form and KL Rahul being the standout batsman in the entire tournament right now, Kings XI can certainly match the IPL leaders. That said, the bowling unit is where the Capitals have the real advantage and will likely make the difference here. If they can get through KL Rahul early, Kings XI would be in major trouble here and Ravi Ashwin has an outstanding record against Gayle and Agarwal which he will look to continue. Assuming there is no sign of the Capitals taking their foot off the gas here, they have to be favoured with their bowling unit to shade this one once again.
