THE LOWDOWN
GUJARAT TITANS
- After finishing top of the league stage, Gujarat Titans came unstuck in the first qualifier, this despite winning the toss and bowling first against Chennai Super Kings as they ultimately failed to chase down 173, getting bowled out for 157 in what was a masterful strangulation by Chennai after putting runs of the board.
- Gujarat Titans will feel hard done by having to play that qualifier at CSK’s home ground of Chepauk, hardly a reward for having outperformed all and sundry in the league and this match being in their home ground of Ahmedabad should play in their favour.
MUMBAI INDIANS
- Mumbai Indians are finishing this tournament extremely well and with the vastly experienced Rohit Sharma at the helm, they look to be peaking at just the right time, winning four of their last five.
- In the eliminator, Mumbai made light work of Lucknow Super Giants, thoroughly dominating them in all departments with star all-rounder Cameron Green shining once again, whilst Akash Madhwal finished with astonishing figures of 5-5 as Rohit’s men bowled Lucknow out for 101, ultimately winning by a whopping 81 runs.
THE PREDICTION
Although Mumbai Indians are the team who come into this second qualifier with momentum on their side, expect a stronger Gujarat Titans batting performance on their own patch. It cannot be underestimated the negative impact that playing that first qualifier in Chennai is likely to have had upon Gujarat, who will feel far more at ease in Ahmedabad. Whilst Rohit and Mumbai will give them a serious test in what should be an extremely close encounter, back Gujarat to considerably improve in all departments and ultimately bounce back by edging out their opponents to book a rematch with CSK in the final.
