THE LOWDOWN

GUJARAT TITANS

  • Whilst Gujarat Titans currently sit bottom of the table on eight points, they have not yet been eliminated from play-off contention, having only played 11 games so far compared to Mumbai Indians’ 12.
  • Three consecutive defeats have the Titans now starting down a barrel, with them winning only two of their last eight fixtures after what had been a promising start to the tournament.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

  • Two wins from their last three matches have come at a crucial time for Chennai Super Kings, who are in a battle to keep their place in the top four, with this being their game in hand over the likes of Delhi and Lucknow.
  • Last time out saw Chennai triumph fairly comfortably over a lowly Punjab Kings in Dharamshala by 28 runs following a terrific all-round performance from the talismanic Ravindra Jadeja.

THE PREDICTION

The reality is Gujarat Titans simply haven’t hit the heights of their previous two years in the IPL, having been forced to essentially start from scratch following captain Hardik Pandya’s departure. A drop-off was expected by many and that has proven to be the case. Chennai Super Kings, perhaps haven’t shown to be as strong a side as the one who defeated Gujarat in last year’s final, but they are still capable of going up a gear when required. It would be a surprise if they didn’t reach the play-offs and if they were to be beaten here.
