THE LOWDOWN
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
- Another miserable outing for Chennai Super Kings saw them succumb to a third consecutive defeat last Sunday, losing by 54 runs against Punjab Kings after being bowled out for 126 chasing 181 for victory.
- Last season’s orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for a second successive score of 1, adding to his 0 against KKR in the opening match of the tournament and Chennai are desperate for him to find some form, which could help kick start their campaign.
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD
- Sunrisers Hyderabad made it two defeats from two following a batting collapse against Lucknow Super Giants which cost them dearly as they were reduced from 143/5 to 157/9, losing by 12 runs.
- Having now joined the SRH camp, South African overseas bowler Marco Jansen has had plenty of time to prepare for this match and is likely to make his Sunrisers Hyderabad debut with the side hoping his left arm quick bowling can provide them with a much-needed spark.
THE PREDICTION
Both of these two teams not knowing how to win makes this a tough game in which to pick one with defending Chennai Super Kings on the back of three straight losses and Sunrisers Hyderabad having been terrible for a long period now. The pressure on for each set of players and experience is expected to come to the fore. Although Sunrisers Hyderabad have Kane Williamson within their ranks, CSK can call on the likes of MS Dhoni, Robin Uthappa, all-rounder Moeen Ali and captain Ravindra Jadeja. None of these players will be panicking, knowing that all it takes is one victory to turn things around in the IPL and with SRH have struggled for a longer period of time, not to mention still not being sure of their strongest starting XI, the smart play would be to back Chennai to finally get on the winners board in 2022.
