THE LOWDOWN

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

  • Chennai Super Kings will be hope that playing in front of their fanatical home fans for the first time since 2019 will serve as the boost they need to bounce back from Friday and kick start their season.
  • They were beaten by reigning champions Gujarat Titans in the first match of this year’s IPL, despite an enthralling 92 from opener Ruturaj Gaikwad which included nine 9s.

LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS

  • Lucknow Super Giants proved that haven’t missed a step following a largely successful opening IPL season in 2022, their first match in 2023 seeing them produce an almost complete performance in a 50-run win over Delhi Capitals.
  • Kyle Mayers set the tone, striking 73 from just 38 balls to help Lucknow reach 193/6 before a five-wicket-haul from English fast bowler Mark Wood broke the back of the Capitals’ run chase.

THE PREDICTION

Lucknow Super Giants will travel to Chennai full of confidence following such a dominant showing against a strong Capitals side. However, this presents a whole different challenge. The value of playing at home cannot be underestimated, especially in Chennai with the legendary MS Dhoni leading the hosts. CSK boast plenty of experience within their squad so losing their opening game won’t have affected them going forward and England players such as Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali will know all about the quality of Wood and should be able to counter as appropriate. On their own patch, back Chennai Super Kings to gain their first victory of the season.
