THE TEAM NEWS
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
- Kolkata Knight Riders were on the brink of victory last time out against Chennai Super Kings, only to throw it away when needing to defend 24 runs from ten deliveries to seal the deal, as Chennai successfully reached their target of 172 off the final ball of the match, thanks largely to Ravi Jadeja’s late cameo of 22 from just eight balls.
- A huge worry for KKR heading into this one is the fitness of West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell, who is expected to miss out with a hamstring injury sustained in the field against Chennai and his absence would prove a massive blow for Eoin Morgan’s side, with the experienced Shakib Al Hasan likely to place in his place.
DELHI CAPITALS
- Delhi Capitals have shown themselves to be one of the best sides in the competition throughout the 2021 IPL and have continued that trend in the UAE, winning both matches played so far in the second phase of the tournament.
- Australian limited overs international Marcus Stoinis will miss out for a second consecutive game due to injury, whilst wicketkeeper batter Sam Billings is available for selection after completing his period of quarantine, Billings of course being off the back of captaining Kent Spitfires to the Vitality T20 Blast title earlier in the month.
THE PREDICTION
Morale within the Kolkata Knight Riders camp is likely to be on the floor after grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory against Chennai and Morgan will have to summon all his captaincy skills to get his team ready for this match. Delhi Capitals looks a well-oiled machine at present, with a wonderful bowling unit including the likes of Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Ravichandran Ashwin which covers all bases, combined with a top order that mixes style with power. The loss of Russell to KKR would weaken them significantly in all areas and should he be not be named in their starting line-up as expected, then back Delhi Capitals to come out on top in this one and continue their winning streak.
