THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

India were on the ropes at one stage in the fourth Test after losing the toss and giving up 353 runs, before being reduced to 177/7 themselves. However, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel played a superb knock of 90 with excellent support from the tail. Jurel guided India to 307 and a deficit of just 46, which was low enough for the Indian spinners to work with. They skittled England out for 145, leaving India a total of 192 to win in the fourth innings, which the hosts reached with five wickets remaining. This victory seals the series for India with this final Test still to play.

ENGLAND

England found themselves in a golden position to push for victory in the fourth Test against India, but let their grip on proceedings slip following a third innings collapse and ultimately paid the price with defeat. Spin-bowler Shoaib Bashir once again impressed, taking eight wickets over the course of the match, but it was the batting which let England down, with the exception of Joe Root’s unbeaten 122 in the tourists’ first innings.

THE PREDICTION

Conditions in the mountains of Dharamsala add an element of intrigue to this fifth and final Test with the possibility of play being disrupted. On a ground such as this, pace and swing bowling should prove important and Bumrah’s return for India will serve as a huge boost from their perspective. The depth of bowling talent both in terms of pace and spin that the hosts have at their disposal cannot be underestimated and is likely to be what separates them from England over the course of this encounter. In crunch positions, England have come up short too many times and on the back of three consecutive Test victories, backing India to record a fourth win is the sensible move to make.

TIP: INDIA TO WIN
