THE LOWDOWN
NEW ZEALAND
Coach: Gary Stead
Captain: Kane Williamson
- Whilst there is no need to panic on New Zealand’s end, consecutive defeats have left them wobbling a bit, albeit both were close-fought contests against extremely strong in-form sides in India and Australia respectively.
- The Black Caps could be handed a timely boost by the potential return of captain Kane Williamson, the top order batter having now returned to the nets following a fractured thumb which has kept him out of his side’s last few games.
SOUTH AFRICA
Coach: Rob Walter
Captain: Temba Bavuma
- South Africa have now established themselves in second-place of the World Cup group having won five of their six matches played so far, most recently demonstrating that they are capable of coming out the right end of a close contest after getting the better of Pakistan by just one wicket last Friday.
- Right-arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was absent against Pakistan due to a back spasm and is doubtful for this one, with Lizaad Williams a contender to play should the Proteas wish to field an extra pacer ahead of two specialist spinners.
THE PREDICTION
New Zealand are experienced enough and strong enough not to let a pair of losses affect them, especially as they still sit in a strong position when it comes to qualifying for the semi-finals. However, their bowlers were dealt some rough treatment by Australia, who recorded 388 runs against the Black Caps. When you then take into account the quality, not to mention brute force of South Africa’s batting line-up, it doesn’t bode well for New Zealand with the Proteas having struck four scores of more than 300 across the tournament so far. South Africa’s form and firepower should see them power past New Zealand and pick up another two points.
BETTING TIP: SOUTH AFRICA TO WIN
