THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

Coach: Rahul Dravid

Captain: Rohit Sharma

  • India now stand alone as the only team yet to be beaten across the group stage so far, having played five and won five after most recently overcoming New Zealand and come into this match as heavy favourites once again.
  • Hardik Pandya misses out again following his ankle ligament injury, meaning India are again unlikely to pick Shardul Thakur and instead opt for the extra specialist batter and bowler in Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami.

ENGLAND

Coach: Matthew Mott

Captain: Jos Buttler

  • Pathetic, embarrassing, a disgrace and the end of an era and descriptions used to describe England’s World Cup campaign so far after their fourth loss of the tournament last Thursday, an eight-wicket hammering by a Sri Lankan side coached by Chris Silverwood, who was sacked as England head coach last year.
  • England have tinkered constantly with their team in a bid to find the right formula and that is unlikely to change with Gus Atkinson possibly set to be brought back into the side, whilst Sam Curran may also make a return appearance.

THE PREDICTION

A face-off between two cricketing titans normally leads to a thrilling match that can often go down to the wire. If this match goes the same way though, then England will have done extremely well when considering India's recent form. England's batters are all completely out of kilter and have been unable to handle the subcontinental surfaces whether they be slow, fast, flat, or spinning. Then you have the bowlers, a number of whom are getting destroyed by opposition batters, despite their undoubted pedigree. Ultimately, England's World Cup campaign is as good as done and the post-mortems have already begun. India though would love to stick the knife in and with the quality at their disposal, are expected to do so with aplomb.
