THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
Coach: Matthew Mott
Captain: Jos Buttler
- England’s dismal World Cup campaign continues as they were subjected to a 100-run defeat at the hands of tournament hosts India in Lucknow in a match which saw their batters once again subside miserably.
- The question for England now is whether they look to bring in younger players who will be part of the team going forward such as Harry Brook and Gus Atkinson, giving the two more crucial World Cup experience.
AUSTRALIA
Coach: Andrew McDonald
Captain: Pat Cummins
- Australia extended their winning streak in the group stage to four games last weekend as they got the better of New Zealand by just 5 runs in a high-scoring thriller which saw their score of 388 prove just enough.
- All-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh are both missing from the team who played in that game, Maxwell through concussion and Marsh due to personal reasons, so Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis should come in as straight replacements with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne each moving up a place in the order.
THE PREDICTION
Despite the missing personnel amid the Australian squad, they still boast plenty of batting firepower that should see them extend the misery suffered by England’s bowling attack across the majority of this World Cup so far. It’s hard to see the England batters based on recent showing being able to match up to Australia, especially when coming up against a bowling attack of their quality. Expect the five-time world champions to send another dagger into the heart of the defending champions by winning in Ahmedabad.
BETTING TIP: AUSTRALIA TO WIN
