THE TEAM NEWS
SYDNEY THUNDER
- Sydney Thunder looked on course to claim the title during the round robin stage of last year’s Big Bash League but they failed to fire when it mattered most at the business end of the tournament.
- They could not advance beyond their opening game of the knockout phase despite boasting talent such as Alex Hales with the English opener finishing the competition as the leading run-scorer with 543.
BRISBANE HEAT
- Brisbane Heat started last year’s BBL poorly but did a superb job to turn things around and advance deep into the tournament, although they fell one game short of making the final as they succumbed to defeat against Perth Scorchers in the Challenger.
- Chris Lynn was the key man with the bat last time around and he will hope to prove his quality in this format once again and having relinquished the captaincy, he can solely focus on his batting in this year’s tournament.
THE PREDICTION
Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat will both harbour hopes of going the
distance in this year’s Big Bash League and they will be desperate to
start well as they do battle here. That will particularly be the case
for the Heat who managed just one win in their opening five matches in
the last edition of the tournament. They did go on to knock the Thunder
out of the competition and having won three of the past four clashes
between the two, the Heat can start this tournament in better fashion
than last year.
