THE TEAM NEWS
SYDNEY THUNDER
- Sydney Thunder finished in third spot on the Big Bash League ladder but they may yet rue surrendering second spot to local rivals Sydney Sixers with a tough game lying in wait here against in-form Adelaide Strikers.
- After back-to-back losses, Thunder returned to winning ways as they edged a one-run success against Melbourne Renegades last time out but they will have to be a lot better to overcome the challenge of the Strikers.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers remained alive in the BBL as their excellent run of form continued with a fifth successive win, overcoming Hobart Hurricanes with another impressive showing in the Eliminator.
- Matthew Short’s outstanding 89 from just 48 balls put the Strikers in a great position as he combined with Alex Carey (67) for a 145-run first-wicket partnership and their score of 188/6 proved to be too much for the Hurricanes to chase down as Adelaide bowled them out for 166 with Peter Siddle continuing his fine tournament with another four wickets.
THE PREDICTION
This could be a classic encounter with Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers doing battle for the right to face Sydney Sixers in the Challenger. Thunder lost their way towards the back end of the round robin and that could prove to be their downfall as they take on the in-form Strikers. Having won their last five, the Strikers have done everything asked of them to turn their campaign around and they have looked superb of late. They have quality with both bat and ball and while Thunder are not short of talent themselves, the recent form of the Strikers gives them the edge in this one.
