THE LOWDOWN

SYDNEY SIXERS

  • The Sydney derby begins with the two teams coming into this on the back of victories. The Sydney Sixers enjoyed a 59-run hammering of the Adelaide Strikers in their most recent outing as they moved to second in the table.
  • The Sixers were blessed with new Sussex signing Steve Smith scoring a T20 century before being run out shortly after. Their top four of Josh Philippe, Smith, Kurtis Patterson and Moises Henriques is one of the strongest in the competition.

SYDNEY THUNDER

  • The Sydney Thunder also enjoyed a comfortable victory last time out. At the Manuka Oval in Canberra, they chased Melbourne Renegades’ score of 142-9 in just 18.3 overs with eight wickets in hand as an unbeaten 74 from keeper-batsman Matthew Gilkes helped them cruise to victory.
  • That victory came after three successive defeats in the Big Bash and they sit fourth in the table but they will be aiming to break into the top three in order to avoid the added pressure of the playoff eliminator.

THE PREDICTION

Despite both enjoying similarly easy wins in their last outing, there is a fairly clear gap in the quality between these two sides. The Sydney Sixers are chasing the Perth Scorchers at the top-of-the-table and they will confirm a top two finish with a victory in this one. The Sixers won the first fixture between these two and, with Steve Smith in the form he showed the other day, they should come out on top in this one at the SCG.
