THE TEAM NEWS

SYDNEY SIXERS

  • Sydney Sixers avoided a third straight loss in the Big Bash League as they got the better of Melbourne Renegades in their most recent contest but this will be a much tougher task as they take on local rivals Sydney Thunder.
  • The Sixers ran out 45-run winners, largely thanks to the efforts of Ben Dwarshuis as he finished with figures of 5-26 and the bowling unit will be crucial here as they look to tame the strong batting line-up of their opponents.

SYDNEY THUNDER

  • Sydney Thunder’s excellent winning streak was brought to an end at six matches by Hobart Hurricanes but they will not be too concerned by that loss if they can make an immediate response against Sydney Sixers.
  • A win for the Thunder in this contest would solidify their position in the top two but they will need to be better with the ball if they are to prevail having conceded 177 runs against the Hurricanes which ultimately proved too much to chase down following a poor effort by the middle-order.

THE PREDICTION

The Sydney derby would be under threat with a less than positive weather forecast potentially curtailing the action but should play be allowed, a superb contest is in the offing. The two teams currently occupy second and third spot on the ladder and there is very little to split the pair. Sydney Sixers have not been at their best of late but they showed what they can do to overcome Melbourne Renegades in impressive fashion while Sydney Thunder have lost just one of their last seven games. That came in their most recent contest against Hobart Hurricanes but they can put their middle-order batting collapse behind them and make an immediate return to winning ways by overcoming their local rivals.
