THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Despite missing a number of key players, Perth Scorchers still managed to pull through and secure victory in their opening BBL games against Brisbane Heat, a testament to the strength-in-depth within their squad.
  • All-rounder Mitchell Marsh and bowler Jhye Richardson remain unavailable for the Scorchers, as does England T20i star Tymal Mills, who continues to serve out his mandatory quarantine period.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

  • Adelaide Strikers bounced back strongly from defeat at the hands of Melbourne Renegades to beat the same opponents by 49 runs in their rematch at Adelaide Oval, skittling them out for just 100 after an excellent display from the Adelaide bowling unit.
  • The Strikers remain without Ryan Gibson, who was injured running between the wickets in their opening match of the tournament, whilst Travis Head is away scoring runs for Australia in the Ashes.

THE PREDICTION

An intriguing battle awaits in Sydney as Perth Scorchers face an opponent that have to be seen as a step up in quality compared to Brisbane Heat. The match not being played in Perth doesn’t help matters for the Scorchers who will have to bat extremely well against a strong bowling attack. Whilst question marks lie over the Adelaide batting unit, who lack that world class player within the top order to really drive them on towards scores of around 170+, their bowling unit has to be considered one of the strongest in the competition and against a weakened Perth Scorchers side, this could prove the difference here. With that in mind, backing an Adelaide Strikers win in this contest is to be seriously considered.
