THE TEAM NEWS
MELBOURNE RENEGADES
- Melbourne Renegades’ most recent BBL outing saw them crushed by Sydney Thunder having been bowled out for just 80 chasing a mammoth 210 to win and with them currently outside the top five a win for them here is vital.
- Two important and experienced players will be missing for the Renegades in this one with Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi having left the camp for family reasons, whilst bowler James Pattinson has withdrawn from the squad in a bid to manage his own workload, although leg-spin bowler Cameron Boyce could make his first appearance since the ninth edition of the BBL.
SYDNEY SIXERS
- Sydney Sixers’ struggles against Perth Scorchers continued last time out as they were beaten by five wickets this past Sunday in Coffs Harbour, leaving them now ten points behind the BBL table toppers.
- Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan will compete in his final Sixers match before returning to Pakistan, whilst both Shaun Abbott and captain Moises Henriques remain in isolation following positive Covid-19 tests and will miss out again here.
THE PREDICTION
Both Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers are without key players in what is a crucial game for both in the context of their respective seasons. The key will be which team copes better with their respective absences. The likelihood is that it will be the Sixers, who still boast plenty of experience within their ranks even without captain Henriques and bowler Abbott to call upon. Key for them also will be their batting depth, which looks far superior to that of the Renegades on paper and whilst Aaron Finch will be key wicket for them to take at the top of the order, Sydney Sixers should prove too strong for their opponents and ultimately pick up the win.
