THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

  • Melbourne Renegades were able to take advantage of the COVID-19 inflicted woes of local rivals Melbourne Stars as they claimed just their second victory of the Big Bash League by earning a relatively straightforward win in their derby clash.
  • Facing an under-strength Stars outfit with many of their key men missing, the Renegades overcame a slight scare when being reduced to 91/5 when chasing 127 but they got the job done to pull themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

BRISBANE HEAT

  • Brisbane Heat became the latest team to suffer a COVID-19 outbreak and it was unfortunately significant enough that it caused their game with Sydney Sixers to be postponed.
  • The Heat have flown some reserve players in to deal with the crisis but it looks set to be a much-weakened side that will take to the field for this game with the squad unlikely to be revealed until much closer to the start.

THE PREDICTION

If this game does not get moved because of the COVID-19 outbreak affecting the Brisbane Heat squad, the weather might still prevent the game going ahead anyway with thunderstorms anticipated all day in Geelong. Should the game go ahead, the Renegades find themselves in the fortune position of once again facing a weakened team, as was the case when they got the better of Melbourne Stars last time out. The gulf in quality between the two teams in that clash proved to be the difference between the two and that should be the case once again in this one with the Renegades able to overcome the depleted Heat.
