THE TEAM NEWS
HOBART HURRICANES
- Last season saw Hobart Hurricanes narrowly miss out on reaching the play-off stage, but with some smart recruitment having been made, bringing in the likes of all-rounder Tim David to compliment spin-bowler Sandeep Lamichhane in the overseas department, they could be set for a good season.
- Opener and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade will available for this match provided injury does not keep him out, having not been selected in the Australia squad for the Ashes, whilst bowler Scott Boland is away on Australia A duty.
SYDNEY SIXERS
- Sydney Sixers proved why they will once again be the team to beat in this campaign’s BBL, thrashing Melbourne Stars by 152 runs in the opening match of the tournament with their top three batters of Josh Philippe, James Vince and captain Moises Henriques scoring 203 of the Sixers’ 213 runs between them.
- Bowler Sean Abbott has made an excellent start to the competition, taking three wickets against the Stars, however he is unlikely to travel to Hobart, meaning that more pressure falls upon the shoulders of overseas bowlers Tom Curran and Chris Jordan to pick up the slack with both Ben Dwarshuis and Jackson Bird both injured.
THE PREDICTION
Sydney Sixers looked every inch the reigning champions that they are against Melbourne Stars and the Hobart Hurricanes bowling attack will not be looking to facing such a formidable top order. Whilst the Hurricanes are the capable of doing plenty of damage themselves with the bat, the winning mentality and experience of the Sixers cannot be denied, with their key players all in good form. With that in mind, back Moises Henriques’ men to secure their second straight win in this season’s BBL and the fifth successive BBL victory in a row.
