THE TEAM NEWS

HOBART HURRICANES

  • Hobart Hurricanes are coming off the back of an excellent victory against reigning BBL champions Sydney Sixers and will be hoping to carry the momentum gained from that win into this clash with Perth Scorchers
  • Much will once again depend on destructive opener Matthew Wade, who struck 93 from just 46 balls against the Sixers, laying the foundation for what was ultimately a winning score.

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers made it two wins from two in this season’s BBL, beating Adelaide Strikers this past Saturday by 49 runs thanks largely to a blistering unbeaten 114 by Colin Munro, which helped the Scorchers accrue 195 runs batting first.
  • Despite having been without the likes of Jhye Richardson and Mitchell Marsh for their opening couple of games, Perth Scorchers have maintained the high standards that saw them reach the final of last season’s competition and already they are looking like a front runner in this campaign.

THE PREDICTION

Both sides are on a high having come off the back of convincing victories. However, the critical factor in this contest is likely to be the depth of batting both teams contain. The Hobart Hurricanes openers did the vast majority of the donkey work with the bat against Sydney Sixers and should the Scorchers dismiss the opening pair of Wade and D’Arcy Short early on, then it could open the floodgates for their bowlers. The likes of captain Ashton Turner and English overseas batter Laurie Evans provides more of a stable foundation for Perth Scorchers should their top three not perform and with the Scorchers having significantly impressed so far this season, combined with the likes of Mitchell Marsh coming back into their side for this match, seriously consider backing them for victory here.
