THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE HEAT

  • Brisbane Heat come into this contest on the back of what was arguably their best win of the competition so far, thrashing Adelaide Strikers by 39 runs in Adelaide and it’s crucial that they maintain the same levels of performance here.
  • English overseas player Ben Duckett has proven an astute signing for the Heat so far and his 78 from just 47 balls against Adelaide set the tone for his side’s victory, despite explosive opener Chris Lynn failing once again at the top of the order.

MELBOURNE STARS

  • Melbourne Stars will have been hugely disappointed to fall to a second straight BBL loss just before Christmas, this time to Hobart Hurricanes by a significant margin of 24 runs, leaving them on just seven points after five games.
  • The disappointing aspect for the Stars will be their overall points tally despite boasting a plethora of big-name international players at their disposal and it’s vital that they start to fire as a proper unit soon if they want to break into those play-off places.

THE PREDICTION

You would expect the surface at the Gabba to significantly favour batting and a high scoring encounter may well be in prospect with both sides containing some big-hitting batters at their disposal. Melbourne Stars contain the more explosive players as a whole with the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Andre Russell all at their disposal alongside Joe Clarke, whilst Brisbane Heat could really do with Chris Lynn firing on their home ground during the powerplay. However, the forecast for this match is gloomy, with thundery showers likely to disrupt play significantly. With that in mind, be sure not to make any moves until closer to the start of play. On paper, the firepower of the Stars is superior to that of the Heat, so backing the visiting side to win is worth considering should the rain stay clear of the ground.
