THE LOWDOWN
BRISBANE HEAT
- After sneaking into the playoffs through the backdoor last season, Brisbane Heat powered all the way through to the final, where they were eventually beaten by champions Perth Scorchers, so the foundations are in place for another big push this campaign.
- Usman Khawaja captains the team and is likely to be a key player for the Heat across this tournament depending on his availability, as are their overseas signings such as Colin Munro and Sam Billings
MELBOURNE STARS
- It couldn’t get any worse for Melbourne Stars last season as they finished rock-bottom of the BBL table with 11 defeats from 14 games and a whopping seven points adrift of the playoff places.
- Adam Zampa has left to join inter-city rivals Melbourne Renegades, whilst the Stars have already been dealt a huge blow ahead of the tournament following the withdrawal of their number one overseas draft pick, England batter Harry Brook.
THE PREDICTION
It would be no surprise if Melbourne Stars suffered another season of struggle when you look at their squad. There doesn’t seem to be a large deal of improvement, which may well end up costing them across the group stage. Brisbane Heat appear to be in a much better position and are well worth backing to get the new BBL campaign up and running by picking up two points.
