- After reaching last year’s play-offs despite a negative win/loss record, Adelaide Strikers made it to the Challenger stage after winning both the Eliminator and Knockout matches before finally being eliminated by Sydney Sixers.
- The newly implemented draft did not stop the Strikers from retaining star spinner Rashid Khan, Adelaide using their ‘right-to-match card’ to ensure he couldn’t be drafted by any other side, but arguably one of the most eye-catching moves of this year’s BBL sees power-hitter Chris Lynn join the Strikers after being released by Brisbane Heat.
SYDNEY SIXERS
- Last year’s finalists Sydney Sixers are looking to add a fourth BBL title to their collection, having established themselves as arguably the most consistently high-performing sides in recent years of the competition.
- Steve Smith will play for the Sixers this year following his Australian Test commitments, whilst the retention of overseas opener James Vince is a huge boost to the side, Vince will also be joining his fellow Englishman Chris Jordan, who provides experienced pace bowling at the death.
THE PREDICTION
Understandably there is a fair bit of excitement about Adelaide Strikers this year. With Chris Lynn having a huge point to prove, expect fireworks at the top of the order, whilst the experienced of Rashid, Peter Siddle and Wes Agar with the ball ensures the hosts are well-stocked when it comes to bowling options. Sydney Sixers though, are a very strong side with an exceptional bowling attack of their own and the experience within their middle order should stand them in good stead if they were to lose early wickets. Despite that, Adelaide Strikers really look to have the tools needed to give the BBL a really good go this year and with home advantage in their favour, backing them to win here is well worth considering.
