THE LOWDOWN

SYDNEY THUNDER

  • Sydney Thunder suffered their second loss in three matches as they were defeated by Perth Scorchers last time out despite an incredible effort from Sam Billings as he tried to save the game for his side.
  • Brendan Doggett marked his first appearance of BBL|10 with a four-wicket haul as he ended with figures of 4-22 in an impressive individual showing but his efforts were not enough to prevent the Scorchers posting a formidable total of 185/6.
  • Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson fell for a combined 31 runs which left Billings to shine but when his wicket was taken late in the innings having scored 83 off just 48 runs, it left the Sixers with too much to do and they fell 17 runs short.

SYDNEY SIXERS

  • Sydney Sixers made an immediate return to winning ways as they overcame Brisbane Heat in a thrilling contest that came down to the final ball of the match but they had one man to thank for that success.
  • The Sixers were in trouble at 54/4 in pursuit of 149 but Dan Christian produced a sensational effort as he whacked 61* from just 38 balls to turn the game on its head and guide his side to the victory.
  • That backed up a superb spell of bowling from West Indian Carlos Brathwaite who ended with excellent figures of 4-18 while Jake Ball also chimed in with his best figures in BBL so far with 3-25.

THE PREDICTION

This all-Sydney affair sees the Thunder take on the Sixers with the pair currently occupying the top two spots on the BBL|10 ladder. In what could be a preview of the final, both teams will be confident of success in a game that has been moved to Canberra owing to the current COVID-19 situation. The pair have each won six of their nine matches so far but the Sixers are two points clear of their rivals at the top of the ladder, although the Thunder appear to have the upper hand coming into this. They have scored more runs than their opponents whilst also conceding fewer and with Australian international Daniel Sams pushing for a return from injury to bolster the bowling attack, the Thunder have the tools to come out on top in this one.
